When a HEX stake reaches its end date, it does not end by itself. You have to end it, and when you do it makes a difference.
From the end date, the stake can be ended in full. The HEX comes back to you together with the reward. Nothing happens automatically on that day.
For a limited time after the end date, ending the stake carries no penalty. Within that window, nothing is lost by waiting.
Once the window closes, a late penalty starts and grows the longer the stake stays open. A forgotten stake slowly loses value. The window is limited, so an early look pays off.
The end date, and the day the window closes, are the dates to know. A reminder a few days before saves a lot of checking. Writing the dates down once is enough.
