A DNS change is easy to miss, because nothing breaks on the day it happens. Monitoring means checking the same records on a schedule and noticing when they differ from last time.
Keep a note of the name servers, the mail servers (MX), and the SPF and DMARC records. These decide where your website and email go and whether your email is trusted.
A change that is made by mistake, or by someone else, does the most harm while it goes unnoticed. A check every few hours finds it the same day, a manual look once a month may not.
You can look up each record and compare it with your notes. This works for one domain, but it takes time and depends on remembering to do it.
A monitoring tool stores the first state it sees, checks again on a schedule and reports differences. You only look when it tells you something changed.
